Dr. Ryan Booth has the expertise to provide various options for orthodontic treatment for all ages, including Invisalign clear aligners. Have you been considering Invisalign treatment, but unsure of what information is fact or fiction? Keep reading below as we begin to debunk some of these myths.

Invisalign has gained serious attention over the years and has also been accompanied by some misinformation. How do you know if you should believe the hype about Invisalign? Booth Orthodontics is here to help you learn the facts about Invisalign clear aligners!

Fiction: Treatment takes longer with Invisalign

While traditional braces use glue and wires to attach to the teeth, people believe that metal braces will straighten the teeth more quickly than Invisalign. But, that is not the case.

Fact: Treatment time with Invisalign is similar to metal braces

We see many unique cases at our Homer Glen office, so there is no one-size-fits-all answer about how long individual treatment will last. However, treatment with Invisalign is typically about the same (or even less) than traditional braces. Treatment with Invisalign averages less than two years, while the treatment time with traditional braces is around two years or longer. Several factors come into play when determining the amount of time you will spend wearing aligners. These factors include the severity of orthodontic issues, age, and compliance.

Fiction: Invisalign trays are painful

Many people believe that since metal braces have a reputation for being uncomfortable and irritating, Invisalign will be too. With traditional braces, metal wires are attached to the teeth and are adjusted over time, which results in some discomfort. However, this same approach is not used when treated with Invisalign.

Fact: Invisalign trays are very comfortable

Invisalign clear aligners utilize the flexible SmartTrack material and are customized to your smile. The trays are more comfortable to wear since there are no brackets or wires. Throughout treatment, your trays will need to be replaced every 1-2 weeks as directed by Dr. Ryan. You will feel some pressure as your teeth start to shift and you switch trays, but that will subside after a day or two.

Fiction: Invisalign doesn’t work as well as braces

This is a myth worth busting! Some believe that traditional braces are more effective than clear aligners since Invisalign is removable rather than fixed to the teeth. But, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Fact: Invisalign is just as effective as metal braces

Thanks to significant advancements in technology, Invisalign clear aligners have come a long way. Clear aligners are just as effective at correcting orthodontic problems as braces, although they were originally used for post-treatment retention. You can achieve the same excellent results as you would with braces when used as directed by Dr. Ryan Booth.

Invisalign: Fact or Fiction

Fiction: It’s hard to maintain Invisalign aligners

When thinking about orthodontics, you might imagine food restrictions and trouble brushing your teeth becoming your new normal. While there are plenty of rules to follow with metal braces, that isn’t always the case.

Fact: Invisalign is easy to maintain

Keeping your Invisalign clear aligners clean is a breeze since they’re completely removable. To keep them in mint condition, you can use a special care kit. Make sure your aligners stay clean and clear by taking them out and rinsing them with an approved solution. Since there are no brackets and wires, you will be able to floss and brush as you usually would. You may also eat or drink whatever you want, as Invisalign has no food restrictions.

Fiction: Invisalign is more expensive than braces

Traditional braces have gone through many changes over the years, which makes them affordable and accessible. Since Invisalign is a newer technology, many people believe it must cost more. But, do we have some good news!

Fact: Invisalign cost is comparable to braces

There is no set number regarding how much treatment will cost since everyone’s orthodontic treatment is different. Invisalign clear aligners often cost about the same as traditional braces. Our team at Booth Orthodontics will help verify any orthodontic coverage with your dental insurance before we begin treatment. We will also work with you to create a budget-friendly treatment plan.
